Let's see if this works. Here's a cool nighttime sky video I found on the Astronomy picture of the day.

Jaunty New Year

I thought Cuppy struck a particularly jaunty pose in this picture. We had my in-laws over for helping out with our newborn son, and they brought their dog Ellie. While the dog is not nasty to cats, the 3 youngest cats want nothing to do with him. They went outside and stayed away.

Cuppy found the outlet pipe to the pond spillway, which she just fits into. It's a pretty safe spot, with two outlets, impossible for a fox or dog to get at her. She seems to be showing off her secret lair to me.

I call it the Cat Cave.

The Elusive Newborn

Here is Zachary Alexander Jones, during his first checkup at age 4½ days old.

They discovered no superpowers, much to my disappointment. We'll have to instill those into him, I guess. Maybe if we just brag him up enough, people will think we believe he has some superpowers.

By the way, sitting up and smiling are not superpowers! I will not change my standards just because he's my child. I expect nothing less than flying, x-ray vision, super stretchy limbs, or incredible speed in my superbaby.

I guess I would settle for good health and normal growth.

Walking Stick

When I was little, we saw walking sticks and praying mantises all the time. They don't seem to be as plentiful anymore. This one was on the mailbox, about 5" long.

I remember a picture from a Time-Life book that I saw when I was little. There was an African child with a walking stick that was about 20" long, clinging to his chest.
