Cold Contrast

I was tired of the cold foggy dreary weather, so I got some nice yellow carnations to cheer the place up. I think that's sort of like sticking your thumb in the dike. It's not a permanent solution, but it works, kind of.

Another Snowstorm

Just when we were starting to hope winter was over, it came back again. A short, nasty little storm that left the roads icy and difficult to drive. This was on February 25th.

The snow really stuck to the trees, and stayed on for a few days. It also got foggy the next day, it was a cold damp storm.

Ground Squirrel Tree

We went on a winter lake trail walk out by Jacomo.

The leaves were off the trees, the ground was bare, everything was shades of brown and grey.

Then we found the Ground Squirrel Tree. This is in the Boy Scout camping ground, so my theory is that they did some ceremony where they called on the spirit of the Great Ground Squirrel, who showed himself in a cliffside tree.

We could not get him to talk to us.

Crocuses: the first sign of spring

This year, it seemed very early, as we noticed the crocuses coming up on February 21. That seems to be about 4 weeks early.
